A Picasso for 100 euros: French charity lottery offers painting as prize

Art lovers have a rare chance to have a legit Picasso in their very own living room. A French lottery is raffling a painting of the Spanish master Picasso estimated at 1 million euros ($ 1,1 million) to the winner of a lottery for the prize of 100 (110$) euros a ticket.

Footage filmed in the Picasso museum of Paris on Friday shows the work of art "Nature morte" from 1921, featuring a newspaper and a glass of absinthe, elements that Picasso has regularly represented in his works.

The goal is to sell 200,000 tickets all over the world to raise 20 million euros ($22 million) to be donated to the Non-governmental Organisation 'CARE', which enables access to clean water in Africa.

"This project - if it works, and it will work - will allow us to raise 20 million euros, it is the objective, to intervene on the ground in Africa to give access to water and education in very poor communities in Morocco, Cameroon, and Madagascar," explained Philippe Leveque, executive director of CARE France.

"You play, there is a draw, and you either are the lucky winner - because there will necessarily be one - or if you don't, it means you donated 100 euros to a charity," added Peri Cochin, organizer of the charity lottery.

The painting will have a new owner on January 6, 2020. Those interested can try their chances by buying a ticket online at 1picasso100euros.com.

This is not the first time a Picasso work is raffled in France. In 2013, they raised €5 million with a lottery for the reconstruction of the Lebanese city of Tyr.
