
Germany: Bayern Munich President Hoeness steps down after 49 years
President of FC Bayern Munich Uli Hoeness stepped down from his position, after 49 years of involvement with the club, at the Munich Olympiahalle on Friday.
Hoeness was welcomed on stage during the annual general meeting by supporters who were chanting "Uli Hoeness, you are the best man."
Former Bayern Munich players Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery joined Hoeness on the podium bringing the club's trophies.
Hoeness addressed the audience with a speech that he concluded by saying "that was it, I'm done, thank you."
He received various gifts, including a jersey with the number 10 - his former shirt number - and a cake.
Hoeness will be succeeded by club's Supervisory Board chairman Herbert Hainer.
During his 49-year affiliation with the Bavarian club, Uli Hoeness oversaw Bayern Munich's 20 Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions League's trophies, among other achievements.
