Iraq: Thousands celebrate national football team victory over Iran
Thousands gathered in Tahrir square on Thursday to cheer their national team on as they faced off against Iran in the second round of the FIFA qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.
The crowd watched the match through a large screen installed in Tahrir square where protests have been taking place for over a month.
Protesters and football fans could be seen going wild as Iraq national team beat Iran 2-1.
The country is experiencing massive unrest against the political leadership since October 1, when angry demonstrators filled the streets to protest against high levels of unemployment, widespread corruption and a lack of basic services.
