Germany: Von der Leyen says EU needs to 'learn the language of power'
EU Commission President-elect Ursula von der Leyen said that Europe needed to "learn the language of power," during the her speech at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation's annual 'State of Europe' event in Berlin on Friday.
"Soft power alone isn't sufficient today if we want to compete in the world," said von der Leyen.
She added that this mean that Europe needed to "build its own muscles, where we could long rely on others, for example on security policy."
Von der Leyen also touched on Brexit and defended NATO, saying that the organisation had "proven itself to be an excellent shield of freedom."
