
UK: 39 lorry deaths - driver in court on manslaughter charges
Maurice 'Mo' Robinson, the 25-year-old lorry driver, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court via videolink on Monday, standing accused of human trafficking and manslaughter of the 39 dead migrants found last Wednesday in Essex.
According to media reports, Robinson spoke at the Court in order to confirm personal information, such as his name, age and address, before having the 43 charges read out loud to him. In addition to the 39 counts of manslaughter and conspiracy to traffic people, Robinson is facing charges over money laundering and conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration.
He will appear at the Old Bailey on November 25.
The 39 bodies were found in the early hours of Wednesday on an industrial estate in Grays.
