Chile: Violent clashes erupt as anti-govt protests continue in Santiago
Protesters and police clashed on the streets of Santiago on Wednesday, as mass anti-government demonstrations in Chile entered their 6th day.
Footage shows thousands of protesters carrying Chilean flags and signs demanding the resignation of President Sebastian Pinera before the clashes broke out.
“I come here peacefully. Protesting for our rights, for our children, our parents and our grandparents,” said one protester.
The current wave of demonstrations, which is considered to be the worst in decades, was sparked by a now-suspended metro fare hike. The demonstrations have since evolved into a movement with wider grievances aimed at addressing the rising cost of living, pension reform and police conduct during demonstrations.
