Ecuador: Chaos breaks out in Quito as anti-govt protesters clash with police
Anti-government protests in Quito turned the capital's streets into a battlefield, as violence intensified with police using tear gas and reportedly firing rubber bullets at protesters, as shown on footage from Saturday.
Some protesters were seen throwing rocks, bottles, projectiles on fire and firing back tear gas at police officers.
Earlier on Saturday, Ecuador President Lenin Moreno ordered a military-backed curfew in and around Quito.
Ecuador has plunged into a wave of protests amid social discontent over a series of economic adjustment measures, including the elimination of fuel subsidies, in agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to obtain million-dollar loans.
