Russia: Mum of US baby with 'Batman' birthmark dubs first op successful *EXCLUSIVE*

The first of many rounds of treatment to remove the so-called 'Batman' nervus from the face of a six-month-old Floridian girl was dubbed a success by her mother, Carol Fenner, who sat down for an exclusive interview with Ruptly in Krasnodar on Friday.

According to Fenner, the first operation went well with baby Luna breaking out in laughter just ten minutes afterwards.

The young mum said that many Russians had been reaching out to provide help to her and her daughter.

"Everybody here is helping us. We receiving a lot of messages in the Instagram from people from here and Moscow asking us: 'what do you need? I can help you, I can buy ? I can give you my children clothes.' Everybody is trying to help us."

Luna had her first operation on her face in Krasnodar on Wednesday. The baby was born with a rare condition called Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus (GCMN). Individuals with this disease are prone to developing melanoma, a serious form of skin cancer.

After the 'Batman' baby's case hit the headlines, Carol and her husband Thiago Tavares opted for treatment in Russia, rejecting several offers in the US after being told their child could faces years of laser surgery.

Luna arrived in the Russian city at the end of September with her mother to receive pioneering treatment from leading surgeon-oncologist Pavel Popov at a specialised clinic. The full medical procedure may last up to 18 months.

The pioneering treatment involves six to eight rounds of surgery at a cost of $25,000 (€22,750).
