Bahamas: Workers clear oil spill months after Dorian caused major leak
More than one month after Hurricane Dorian destroyed the Equinor South Riding Point oil facility in the Bahamas, works to clean up the crude oil leaked in the area are still ongoing in East Grand Bahama, on Friday.
Norway-based multinational energy company stated on Monday, that they have recovered 35,000 barrels of oil (1.47 million gallons / 5.56 million litres), meanwhile the estimated total amount of oil spilled is over three times that amount, at around 119,000 barrels.
The spill caused by Hurricane Dorian is estimated to be the biggest in the history of the region, higher than the 2017 Keystone Pipeline spill in South Dakota and the 2005 Chevron oil facility leak, caused by hurricane Katrina.
