      UK: Corbyn joins ex-Thomas Cook workers' protest near Downing Street

      Laid-off Thomas Cook employees were joined by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn while marching on Parliament to demand answers about the firm's demise and to call for the payment of their missing wages, in London on Wednesday. The former workers of the recently collapsed travel company also delivered a petition to Downing Street calling for a government inquiry into the collapse.

      "I was in the company for 31 years, it’s been my life and I thought I’d be retiring here," said one of the many Thomas Cook workers as another emphasised that they had no answers regarding what had happened to the firm.

      More positively a third laid off Thomas Cook employee said that despite the circumstances they are "all one family and together [they will] get through."

      Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott said the British state "should have stepped in to save the jobs of Thomas Cook workers."

      Thomas Cook, the world's oldest tour operator, collapsed on September 23 after attempts to save the company failed.
