China: Xi Jinping pays respect to 'Communist martyrs' ahead of 70th anniv. celebrations
Chinese President Xi Jinping, together with leaders of the Communist Party, paid their respect to those killed during the revolutionary struggles, in Beijing on Monday, a day ahead of the 70th anniversary of the founding of Communist China.
Footage shows Jinping alongside government officials taking part in a wreath-laying ceremony for Martyrs’ Day at the 'Monument to the People's Heroes', minutes before other attendees including elderly veterans and retired senior officials flocked to the monument to pay their respects.
The Martyrs' Day ceremony, held on Tiananmen Square, comes at a time when the country is preparing for the anniversary of the National Day festivities that will see the release of 70,000 doves and a massive military parade, said to be China's biggest held to date, amid Hong Kong unrest.
