      Riot police deployed tear gas as thousands of people gathered in Hong Kong's Causeway Bay shopping district on Sunday, as anti-government protests continued for the 17th consecutive weekend.

      Footage shows protesters dousing a tear gas canister with water, as well as marching with a wide variety of national flags.

      Hong Kong has been rocked by demonstrations sparked by a planned, but now-withdrawn extradition bill since March. The rallies have evolved into a movement with wider grievances against the Hong Kong administration.

      Tensions are expected to increase in coming days as China gears up to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founding on October 1, with pro- and anti-government protests planned throughout Hong Kong on Tuesday.
