
Syria: UN Syria envoy meets FM Muallem to discuss constitutional committee
The UN Special envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen met with the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in Damascus on Monday, to discuss the formation of a constitutional committee.
The committee aims to bring all sides of the Syrian conflict together to reach an agreement on redrawing the nation's constitution. It will be formed of 150 representatives chosen by President Bashar al-Assad's government, the Syrian opposition and the United Nations.
The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres later announced in the US that an agreement had been reached on the committee’s composition and it has been formally established.
