      Indonesia: Clashes as protesters condemn law limiting anti-corruption commission

      Scuffles broke out between police and protesters who had assembled in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) building condemning a new law affecting the commission’s independence in investigating corruption cases, in Jakarta on Friday.

      Protesters were teargassed and pushed back after clashes with the police in front of the KPK headquarters.

      Led by the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII), the protest reportedly demanded the resignation of the Commission’s chairman Agus Rahardjo.

      Changes enforced on the KPK will reportedly see the commission conduct some of its responsibilities under a supervisory board.
