At least 200 climate activists from the anti-automotive protest group 'Sand in the Gears' blocked the entrances to the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt on Sunday.

"We are demanding from the politicians as well from the industry to lead to a traffic revolution. We need a change in traffic, the time for bigger cars is finally over especially for cities, and they could be car free," Tina Velo the spokesperson for Sand in the Gears said

"We are blocking the way today so that possibly nobody could enter today in the fair [International Motor Show venue], which is important to show a big sign that there is now time for a traffic revolution," Velo added.

Motor Show attendees can be seen in the footage trying to step over the activists, who blocked the entrances to the Messe Frankfurt Event Centre with police trying to break up the activists.

The 68th IAA 2019 opened its doors to visitors on 14 September and will continue until 22 September. The show is considered one of the biggest and most important motor shows in the world.
