
Spain: Hundreds evacuated due to torrential rains in Murcia region
Hundreds of people were evacuated from the towns of La Arboleja, Siscar and Santomera on Friday, as a result of the torrential rains that have fallen during the last few days in the Spanish region of Murcia.
Footage shows Guardia Civil personnel and medical personnel assisting the locals of those localities.
The authorities decided to open the gates of the Santomera dam to try to reduce the level of the reservoir that could cause the structure to collapse.
Hundreds of inhabitants of the region were evacuated from their homes by emergency personnel. Some of them have been transferred to schools that have been established as shelters until the risk of flooding passes.
A meteorological phenomenon to the southeast of Spain, commonly known as a Cold Drop, has caused innumerable damage, including the death of at least five people, hundreds of people must have been evacuated and traffic interruption of at least 40 roads.
