Zimbabwe: Coffin of former leader Mugabe transported out of Harare residence
The coffin of former Zimbabwe President and Pan-Africanist revolutionary leader Robert Mugabe was taken from his Harare residence to the capital's Rufaro Stadium on Thursday, in order for citizens to pay their respects to their nation's founder.
Footage shows soldiers carrying Mugabe's coffin, draped in a Zimbabwean flag, out of the former leader's 'Blue Roof' residence and placing it into a hearse amid the cheering and singing of those present.
Mugabe's body was then transported by helicopter to Rufaro Stadium, where it will lay for several days ahead of his funeral, when he will be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre monument in Harare. Rufaro Stadium is the location Mugabe was sworn in as the first leader of independent Zimbabwe in 1980.
A stampede reportedly injured several people on Thursday as thousands tried to see the body lying in an open casket.
Mugabe died in a Singapore hospital at age 95 on September 6.
