France: Paris demo protests violence against women
Women reportedly from the Yellow Vests movement and other associations rallied in front of the Salvation Army Foundation - Palace of the Women building in Paris, on Saturday, to protest violence against women and the government's 'Grenelle of domestic violence' initiative.
"Today, in France since the beginning of the year, the number of femicides has increased," explained Philomene, a member of the Du Pain et Des Roses collective.
Another protester took aim at the 'Grenelle of domestic violence', a government initiative aimed at curbing femicides that was announced by the Secretary of Equality between women and men Marlene Schiappa. "We think that all this is communication. And we would like, first of all, a real Minister of Women's Rights and someone who takes demands seriously and who is not just doing communication."
Protesters could be seen chanting and wearing signs reading "Schiappa you're screwed, we are not dead!" and "+100 femicides, it's enough."
