Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the gates of Downing Street on Saturday under the motto 'Stop the Coup,' to denounce UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's decision to suspend parliament for five weeks from mid-September.

Footage shows protesters marching and chanting in central London as they waved European Union flags, as well as signs with messages attacking Johnson.

The Queen granted the prime minister permission to prorogue parliament on Wednesday, in a move that was condemned as a "constitutional outrage" by the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, while Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has said that his party will put forward legislation to prevent parliament being suspended.

Protests under the 'Stop the Coup' banner were scheduled to take place in over 30 locations across the UK on Saturday, while legal challenges aimed at blocking the suspension have also been lodged in London, Edinburgh and Belfast.
