UK: Backlash as PM suspends Parliament
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament provoked an angry backlash from protesters in central London on Wednesday.
Several hundred gathered on College Green at Westminster, bringing banners and signs critical of Johnson and Brexit.
The event was organised by pressure group Another Europe is Possible. Several similar protests were held in towns and cities across the country.
Earlier, the Queen approved Johnson's request to suspend Parliament for 23 days in September, with only weeks to go before the UK is due to leave the EU.
Opponents say the plan increases the chances of a no-deal Brexit, with MPs given too little time to debate the issue.
