Puerto Rico: Residents brace themselves for Hurricane Dorian
Puerto Ricans were seen preparing for Hurricane Dorian in the city of Carolina, in the southeast of the island, on Tuesday, two years after Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria.
Footage shows Carolina residents filling up their vehicles at a petrol station and buying supplies at supermarkets one day before Hurricane Dorian, a category one storm, is expected to make landfall on the island late on Wednesday.
Late on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump approved an emergency declaration allowing federal agencies to provide disaster relief. In a tweet on Wednesday, he called the territory "one of the most corrupt places on earth."
According to a 2018 study by the George Washington University (GWU), 2,975 people died in Puerto Rico as a result of Hurricane Maria.
