State of Palestine: Thousands mourn slain police officers in Gaza City
Thousands of mourners attended the funeral in Gaza City on Wednesday of two police officers who were killed in an attack on Tuesday.
Salama al-Nadeem and Alaa al-Gharabli, both 32, were both killed as a result of a blast at the checkpoint they were manning in the neighbourhood of Tel al-Hawa.
The funeral procession, which departed from the victims' neighbourhoods and made its way to the city's central Omari mosque, was reportedly joined by thousands of residents who wanted to pay their respects.
"We stand with our brothers in the Palestinian police and tell them we are your shield. All the resistance force is the force of our Palestinian people, our families and our people are a shield and a sword for our security services," said senior Hamas member Khalil al-Hayya during the service.
