Venezuelan Jesus walks with cross for 24 days to shed light on migration crisis
Carrying a large wooden cross with 'SOS' written on it, Jesus Paucar is on a special kind of pilgrimage. The man walked for 24 days in order to reach the Venezuelan border and shed light on the migration crisis. The footage filmed on Thursday shows Paucar walking from the Colombian city of Cucuta and crossing the Simon Bolivar International Bridge to Venezuela.
"Every time I see a Venezuelan migrant on the road, I want to move the cross with more desire. I kiss, and I pray for them, and I get tears when I see them, when I see them," said Jesus Paucar.
He also addressed the populations from neighbouring countries: "please have a little patience for us, the migrants who run away from here every time, please have patience because when the government changes in Venezuela, we are all going back there."
According to the United Nations, around 4 million Venezuelans have left their country due to the economic and political crisis in recent years.
