Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla hold a joint press conference after bilateral talks in Havana on Wednesday.
Rodriquez thanked Russia for supporting Cuba in the face of the recent U.S. economic sanctions against the Caribbean nation.
“We appreciate and welcome the firm and strong support we have received from Russia, it's government, parliament and people in our battle against the unjust, obsolete and genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade,” he said.
Lavrov on his part pledged to strengthen bilateral, political and trade ties between Moscow and Havana, adding that “a majority of the international society” are against the economic blockade imposed on Cuba.
He went on to discuss the situation in Venezuela, stating that Russia supports “peaceful and diplomatic” solution to the crisis.
The Russian diplomat will continue his Latin America tour by attending BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting in Brazil between July 25-26.
