Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis held an election campaign rally for his newly founded European Realistic Disobedience Front [MeRA25] party, in Athens on Saturday, on the eve of the general elections.

"MeRA25 is our voice which must enter the Greek parliament and be heard all over Europe and all over the world," said Varoufakis, during his speech on stage.

"Wolfgang Schauble said congratulations to Tsipras because the government was the most efficient into passing the 'YES' to all the austerity cuts. Syriza colleagues did not understand, that this was not a compliment. It was the kiss of death," he added.

MeRA25, which narrowly missed out on a seat in the European Parliament when it won 2.99 percent of the vote in May's elections, is also the first Greek party to have a transgender parliamentary candidate.

According to polls, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and his SYRIZA party look set to be removed from power by the centre-right New Democracy (ND) party led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
