A Russian Il-62 military plane landed on Monday at the Maiquetia Simon Bolivar International Airport, north of Caracas, to carry out maintenance of equipment previously supplied by Moscow to the Caribbean country, as shown in images filmed on Tuesday .

According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Riabkov, the arrival of the aircraft is part of the plan for "maintaining the equipment supplied there earlier under defense contracts" and a "routine work" that "has no elements of destabilisation of the situation.“

Russian President Vladimir Putin said early in June that his country would not create military bases or deploy troops in Venezuela, adding that Russian military specialists working on the ground are observing the deadlines stipulated in the previously reached agreements.
