Thailand: Thai FM calls for 'peace and stability' at ASEAN ministerial meet
Amidst ongoing trade tensions between the US and China, Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai called for regional and external cooperation to ensure 'peace and stability' in southeast Asia. Pramudwinai made the remarks during the opening speech of the ministerial meeting of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Bangkok on Saturday.
"In the midst of unpredictable changes [...] it is more important than ever that ASEAN works proactively with south Asia and the external partners to ensure enduring peace and stability in our region," said the Thai Foreign Minister.
Pramudwinai also promoted the theme of Thailand's periodic chairmanship goal in the ASEAN saying: "Together we can effectively promote the ASEAN chairmanship theme of Advancing Partnership for Sustainability."
Prior to Pramudwinai's remarks, the intergovernmental organisation's foreign ministers gathered on stage to pose for a group photo and a joint handshake.
The ministerial meeting was part of the 34th ASEAN Summit which will conclude on Sunday.
