Algeria: Thousands flood Algiers as high-profile figures detained in graft probe
Thousands of people hit the streets of Algiers for the 18th week in a row on Friday, amid arrests of several high-profile figures in an anti-corruption probe.
Footage shows protesters marching through the capital, chanting slogans and carrying a large Algerian flag. Some protesters also carried Berber flags despite this week's ban by the country's Army Chief Ahmed Gaid Salah.
The protests, dubbed the Smile Revolution, began in February after 82-year-old then-President Abdelaziz Bouteflika announced he would be running for a fifth term in office. While he dropped his bid and ultimately resigned in April, the protests continued, demanding a complete political overhaul.
