At Sea: Russian and US warships nearly collide in East China Sea
A US and a Russian warship nearly collided in the East China Sea.
The US Navy published the footage showing the incident.
Russia's Pacific fleet said the American guided missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville "suddenly changed directions and came within 50 meters of the Russian destroyer Admiral Vinogradov." The Pacific Fleet also said that to avoid collision the Russian crew had to perform an emergency manoeuvre.
The US Navy, however, claimed that their vessel was maintaining a steady course when the Russian ship came from behind and "accelerated and closed to an unsafe distance" of about 50 to 100 feet (15- 30 metres) from the USS Chancellorsville, forcing it to manoeuvre to prevent collision.
Both sides informed about a formal complaint against each other over the incident.
