Lipetsk Zoo welcomes rare zebra-donkey hybrid
A rare zebra hybrid was born in the Lipetsk zoo on June 1. Footage filmed on Tuesday shows the rare crossbreed baby, known as zebroid, eating and walking with its mother in the zoo.
The newborn's parents are donkey stallion called Zhorik and zebra mare Vanda.
The zoo's representative Lyubov Borodina explained that Vanda was brought to Lipetsk from Kaliningrad in 2012 and since then the zoo has been looking for a partner to her.
"She is alone, without a partner, therefore, of course, she is young, and in general we decided to try to get a pony to her first. Pony stayed with her, walked in, and everything went great. The next step was to bring a donkey to her. So some time has passed, and this miracle called Zebroid has come into the world,” said Borodina.
As can be seen from the footage, the baby zebroid has features from both of its parents, with donkey’s large pointy ears and light brown fur, and with zebra-style striped legs.
