USA: President Trump makes comments ahead of UK trip

United States, Washington DC
June 3, 2019 at 02:49 GMT +00:00 · Published

US President Donald Trump said he may meet pro-Brexit politicians Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage during his state visit to the UK. He was speaking in Washington DC on Sunday as he was about to leave for London. The comment comes a day after Trump backed Johnson to become the British prime minister in an interview.

"Well I may meet with him [Boris Johnson], he's been a friend of mine, he's been very nice. I have a very good relationship with him. I have a very good relationship with Nigel Farage, with many people over there and we'll see what happens. I may meet with him. They want to meet. We'll see what happens", said the US president.

Trump also said he was not happy with Israel's political crisis which led to the dissolution of parliament and the announcement of snap elections on Thursday. "Israel is all messed up with their election. I mean, that came out of the blue three days ago. So that's all messed up. They ought to get their act together. Bibi (Benjamin Netanyahu) got elected. Now all of a sudden they're going to have to go through the process again till September. That's ridiculous. So we're not happy about that. But if we can get a Mideast peace plan that'd be good", said the president.

Trump is travelling to London for a two-day trip which begins on Monday.
