Japan: Moscow ready to facilitate non-aggression treaty between Iran and Gulf states – Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow is ready to facilitate and contribute to a non-aggression treaty between Iran and the Gulf states, speaking in Tokyo on Friday.
"I think that the initiative of Tehran to sign a treaty on non-aggression against each other is a step in the right direction," said Lavrov said, adding that "not all, but a number of countries participating in the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf are ready to consider this initiative. We will be ready to contribute to this process."
According to Lavrov, "permanent members of the UN Security Council, representatives of the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the European Union could also participate in this process."
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif earlier said that the country had offered to establish a non-aggression pact with its neighbours in the Persian Gulf.
