
Hungary: At least 7 dead and 21 missing as search efforts continue after Danube boat collision
Up to 21 people remain missing after a tourist boat collided with a larger vessel during a rainstorm and capsized on the Danube river in Budapest late on Wednesday. At least seven people were reported dead and the authorities have stated that the death toll is likely to rise.
Footage filmed in the Hungarian capital on Thursday shows search efforts continuing following the incident.
The 'Mermaid' boat, which was reportedly carrying 33 South Korean tourists and two Hungarian crew members, hit a river cruise ship, the Viking Sigyn, near the Hungarian parliament building before it capsized and sank on the river, which has been swollen by recent heavy rains.
According to officials, so far 14 people have been pulled out of the water, with seven people reported dead and the other seven suffering from hypothermia but in stable condition.
Police have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
