Peru: Lima protesters march against congressional immunity push
Roughly 2,000 protesters marched through Lima on Tuesday to demonstrate against a reported drive by Congress to implement parliamentary immunity. Demonstrators accuse the legislature of corruption and called on President Martin Vizcarra to shut down congress.
"Today all the Peruvian people stand up, demanding the closure of the congress of the republic, we demand [President Martin] Vizcarra puts on his pants and really assumes the presidency, to close this corrupt congress full of rats, mice and field mice,'" said Ciro Silva, a protester.
The protest was held in response to the reported filing of a congressional committee proposal for parliamentary immunity.
