Venezuela: Maduro says ‘sabotage’ prevented food & gasoline supply ships from arriving

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that several ships with gasoline and food heading to the country were sabotaged as part of the "persecution" caused by the sanctions imposed by the USA, during a meeting of the Unified Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) held in Caracas on Monday.

"The ship that brought gasoline last week, well, ten ships, ten ships they sabotaged, so that they did not reach the Venezuelan coasts,” said Maduro, adding that some vessels that brought food under the programme of products with subsidised prices, known as CLAP (Local Committees of Supply and Production), were also "sabotaged and did not leave the ports from where they were going to leave."

Despite the incident, the Venezuelan leader said that the problem with the ships "is already in the process of being solved.”

Maduro said that these type of actions against Venezuela are part of an aggression promoted by Washington, which includes the blockade of financial resources in various international banks to make it impossible to purchase medicines, supplies and food for the population.
