Ukraine: Anti-Russia protesters invoke Marvel's Avengers during Kiev march
An anti-Russia demonstration was staged at the same time as the Immortal Regiment March in Kiev on Thursday.
Counter-demonstrators held up placards depicting characters from the Marvel film franchise dressed as soldiers from World War II, in a subversive twist of the tradition of holding up photos of relatives who fought in the war.
Organisers of the counter-protest said on Facebook that their intent was to ridicule the pro-Russian Immortal Regiment marches, which take place in cities around the world on Victory Day every year to honour the lives of those who fought in World War II and celebrate victory against the Nazis.
