Russian national ice hockey team held their final practise session in Moscow on Wednesday before travelling to Slovakia to compete in this year’s World Ice Hockey Championships.

Russia’s roster is full of NHL superstars such as Washington Capitals’ Alexander Ovechkin, Los Angeles Kings’ Ilya Kovalchuk and Pittsburgh Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin. Kings forward Kovalchuk has been named as the captain of the team, with Oveckin and Malkin as alternate captains.

“We want to win the fourth (gold medal). I think that Ilya was right saying that the team is very good,” 2018 Stanley Cup champion Ovechkin said.

The 2019 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championships will run from May 10 to 26 in Slovakia. In the preliminary group phase the Russian team will play against Sweden, the Czech Republic, Norway, Switzerland, Latvia, Austria and Italy.
