Venezuelan journalist Gregory Jaimes was wounded while covering the protests taking place in Caracas on Wednesday.

Footage shows Jaimes being helped away by other journalists with blood on his face mask after he was reportedly struck with a rubber pellet.

There were conflicting versions of who fired the pellet.

Jaimes told Argentinean news service TN that the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) fired rubber-coated bullets and teargas canisters directly at the press.

Venezuelan journalist Jaimes, who works for the VPI TV channel, said that he and another journalist were wounded after they came under fire from the GNB.

The journalist who captured the incident, meanwhile, says that says Jaimes was injured after protesters shot towards the police, accidentally striking him in his face.

Ruptly cannot independently verify what occurred.
