Peru: Pres. Vizcarra wants Venezuela to 'return to the path of democracy'
Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra said on Tuesday in Trujillo that Peru wants "Venezuela as a sister country to return to the path of democracy."
"We hope that the Venezuelan people will make the best decision because it is a population that is suffering, it is a population that we have seen that it has to leave its country precisely because it does not have the minimum conditions to have a decent life," Vizcarra added.
Vizcarra's comments were made in reference to the recent uprising in Venezuela that has seen members of the armed forces defect and join Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido in attempting to unseat Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Venezuela has been in a political crisis since January 23, when Guaido declared himself interim-president in a move that was rapidly granted official recognition by the United States and several other countries and international bodies.
