
Venezuela: Guaido addresses supporters in Caracas as clashes continue
Venezuela opposition leader Juan Guaido addressed the crowds in Caracas on Tuesday, hours after announcing an uprising to oust President Nicolas Maduro, as the police allegedly used teargas against Guaido supporters.
"As heroes who are going to recover and rebuild Venezuela, that is what Venezuela needs today. Their armed forces determined to conquer their freedom, together with all the people on the street protesting and demanding as we have done over and over again. Can we or can we not?" asked Maduro surrounded by cheering civilians and military supporters.
Opposition politician Leopoldo Lopez, who was released from house arrest by by members of the security forces who had defected to Guaido, also appeared at the rally.
Guaido's supporters and government forces continued to clash in the streets under a cloud of teargas.
