Spain: The government urges to avoid 'bloodshed' in Venezuela
The Spanish government urged for the avoidance of ‘bloodshed’ in Venezuela, after the release of oppositionist Leopoldo Lopez and the call of uprising made by opposition leader Juan Guaido.
“With renewed strength we want to avoid bloodshed,” said government spokesperson Isabel Celaa.
Celaa reminded Spain’s position towards Venezuela: „We’re supporting a peaceful democratic process in Venezuela. We believe on holding elections immediately in order to elect a new president.”
The spanish spokesperson labeled the news from Venezuela as „very significant.“ „There is evidence of military movements whose organisation and outcome remain unknown to the government of Spain,” continued Celaa.
Speaking before the press, Celaa assured that the president of the government Pedro Sanchez is receiving „continued information“ regarding the situation in Venezuela.
Venezuelans descended to the city‘s outskirts near La Carlota air base on Tuesday, where Juan Guaido had previously announced the beginning of the "final phase" of "Operation Libertad," aiming to remove President Nicolas Maduro from office.
