USA: Uni students voice concern over safety after link to synagogue shooter
Footage filmed on Tuesday shows students at California State University San Marcos expressing concerns over their safety at the institution, which the alleged gunman in the Chabad of Poway synagogue shooting is believed to have attended.
One of the students, Ana Velazco, said that "it's really devastating, and it gets me to think whether I am safe here or not."
Another student, Derrick Jaime, talked of his fears, saying that it was "scary."
The suspected gunman reportedly entered and opened fire on worshippers at the Chabad of Poway synagogue with an AR-type assault rifle. Police have since detained John Earnest, a 19-year-old white male who apparently published a manifesto online prior to the attack.
While the victims have not yet been named, among them was an adult woman, who died of her injuries. Three others, one of whom is a minor, remain in a stable condition in hospital.
The incident happened on the seventh and final night of Passover. Saturday's shooting comes six months to the day after the attack on a Pittsburgh synagogue killed 11 people.
