Argentina: Maradona's nephew recalls River Plate debut and goal
Hernan Lopez, a nephew of footballing legend Diego Maradona, spoke in Buenos Aires on Friday, about debuting for River Plate, which is the arch rival of Boca Juniors where his famous uncle once played.
Lopez made his professional first-team debut for River Plate on April 8 against CA Tigre, managing to also score his first goal at the highest level of Argentine football.
"The debut was amazing. It was something that I've been awaiting since I was a boy," said Lopez.
"When the moment of the goal came, when I saw the ball coming at me, everything was in slow motion and it was wonderful. It was like a relief after all the effort that I put in since I was a boy to achieve it."
"Diego [Maradona] saw me play through my dad, who showed him videos [of me playing], and he says that I have several movements that resemble him, and that I should always keep him up to date with the videos," said Lopez.
The young midfielder also said his dream was to establish himself first in the River Plate first team squad, then play for the Argentine national team, and then move to Europe. "It is the dream of every football player," said Lopez.
