Iran: Parliament passes law designating US CENTCOM 'a terrorist group'
The Iran Parliament reportedly passed a law designating United States Central Command (CENTCOM) "a terrorist group" on Tuesday in Tehran.
The bill is a response to the US classification of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist group. According to reports, the motion stipulates that the Iranian military can take any necessary measures to prevent American forces acting against the Islamic Republic of Iran's interests.
"The Ministry of intelligence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should try, through bilateral and multilateral relations with international organizations, to foil these US actions by active diplomacy," said deputy head of the parliamentary national security and foreign policy committee, Kamal Dehghani Firouzabadi.
On April 8, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the US was designating Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard Corps as a "foreign terrorist organisation." Tehran responded to Washington's decision by designating the US military as a terrorist organisation, according to Iranian state TV, as cited in media reports.
