Artworks from mysterious street artist and activist Banksy were on display in Los Angeles on Monday, as part of a collection of street art set to go under the hammer on Thursday.

Banksy's 'Hayne Street Ghetto Rat' is expected to fetch between $60,000 and $80,000 (€53,289 and €71,052). The collection also includes other pieces from the Bristol artist, including 'Glastonbury Parachute Rats,' alongside works by Invader, Mr. Brainwash, Damien Hirst, Shepard Fairey, Ai Weiwei and David Hockney among other artists. The entire collection is expected to bring in over half a million dollars (€444,300).

'Girl with Balloon,' a painting by the Brit depicting a girl releasing a red heart-shaped balloon, self-destructed by shredding itself seconds after being auctioned for $1.4 million (€1.24 million) in October. Julien's Auction Property and Street Art Specialist Mitchell Kaba said that a similarly shocking event wasn't outside the realm of possibility for Thursday's auction.

"This thing could explode for all we know, you never know what's going to happen with Banksy works as we've seen with 'Balloon Girl' shredding, so we could be up for some real excitement on Thursday night," he said.

Cashed-up fans of the subversive graffiti artist can bid on the works in person, online or via telephone.
