Russia: Putin and Tajik President Rahmon hold bilateral talks in Moscow
Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon in Moscow on Wednesday, during which they discussed bilateral, regional and international issues.
“Special attention was paid to trade and economic relations. The Russian Federation accounts for a quarter of Tajik trade and about a third of all foreign investment in the republic, 1.6 billion US dollars,” Putin said.
“I would like to note that in our country there are things that are done for Tajiks and their families who come to Russia to ensure they have decent conditions for life, education, labour, and feel secure and comfortable,” he added.
Also addressing the issue of migrant labour in Russia, Rahmon said “thanks to joint efforts we have made good progress in solving acute questions in this field. It is worth noting that there is a tendency, in recent years the number of Tajik labour immigrants entering the Russian Federation is decreasing.”
The two leaders signed a number of memoranda on cooperation in fields including, agriculture, energy and tourism.
