UK: Man City's Sterling says he won't leave pitch due to racist comments

United Kingdom, London

Star Manchester City player Raheem Sterling was asked about his recent stand against racism from fans during a press conference in London on Monday.

Ahead of his team's Champions League quarterfinal with Tottenham Hotspurs, Sterling said that he doesn't believe that players should walk off the pitch when they faced racist abuse from fans.

"If you do walk off the pitch as a group that kind of makes them win. So to score or win the match that's even a better feeling."

He said that he was able to handle the situation because of the way his mother raised him to be proud of who he was.

"I'm black and I'm happy with it, I'm proud. I'm confident with my body, but at the same time it is not right."

Manager Pep Guardiola said that he agreed with his player's stance, saying it was "difficult to understand, twenty-first century we are still debating these kind of situations."
