Residents on Paris' 'most Instagrammed' street demand gates to stem the tide
Rue Cremieux may just be the most popular street in Paris on social media, with some 31,000 posts filling Instagram every day, but locals are demanding authorities do something about the flocks of tourists on their doorsteps, as shown in footage filmed on Saturday.
Residents on the street, tired of people coming to photograph their pastel-coloured abodes and flowers for social media traction, want gates installed for a little bit more privacy.
"I understand their rights of course, they're living here so it can be kind of disturbing for them to have people at every angle, at every hour of the day," said Tatiana, a tourist from the US who actually found the street on Instagram. "But I believe, you know, it's kind of a street in Paris and it's kind of public."
In May 2018, authorities in Venice decided to erect tourist gates during a national holiday in an attempt to stop pedestrians overcrowding hotspots the city during peak season - is something similar on the horizon in Paris?
