Italy: Toxic atmosphere in Washington now - Bannon on US-Russia relations
US President Donald Trump's former advisor Steven Bannon discussed the future of the Russia-US relationship after the Mueller probe showed no evidence of Trump-Russia collusion, in a press conference in Rome on Tuesday.
"I hope that the temperature starts to calm down, but like I said, it's so toxic in Washington DC right now, anything about the United States and Russia is just toxic. And so, I don't believe that there will be any change tomorrow morning," stressed Bannon.
He also added that Chinese President Xi Jinping "is the existential threat" of the US, adding though that Russian President Putin is still "a bad guy."
"But eventually, we've got to unite the Judeo-Christian West and Russia is a part of that," Bannon added.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report into collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government during the 2016 US presidential elections didn't find that any US person or Trump campaign official conspired or knowingly coordinated with Russia.
The report was the culmination of a two-year long investigation by Mueller that has seen a number of Trump aides prosecuted and imprisoned.
