
Venezuela: Two men accused of plotting coup - interior minister
Venezuela's Minister of the Interior and Justice Nestor Reverol confirmed that a plan to carry out attacks in the country by a terrorist cell was dismantled by intelligence services, while speaking at a press conference in Caracas on Thursday.
"Our intelligence services have once again dismantled a terrorist cell that planned to carry out a series of selective attacks," Reverol announced.
He said the group had "hired Colombian and Central American mercenaries" and were planning to make attempts on the lives "political and military leaders" and "sabotage to public services" in order "to create chaos in Venezuelan society."
Reverol publicly identified two suspects, Roberto Eugenio Marrero Borja and Luis Alberto Paez Salazar, adding "these detainees are part of a larger group that is now fully identified, and the intelligence agencies are after their capture."
